Nutrition assistance will reach maximum level

New York households that receive benefits under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program are set to once again receive the maximum allowable aid this month, Gov. Kathy Hochul’s office on Friday announced.

The additional aid means a household of four people receiving $939 a month will see an additional payment of at least $95, Hochul’s office said.

The additional payment under the SNAP program comes amid sustained inflation levels that have spiked this year, forcing up the cost of groceries and other staples for households.

“SNAP is one of our greatest tools in addressing food insecurity among New Yorkers, especially those who are still suffering from the economic fallout caused by the pandemic,” Hochul said. “These funds will help New Yorkers purchase healthy, nutritious food for themselves and their families, while freeing up resources for other household needs.”

Households outside of New York City will see the additional benefits post by next Wednesday. For New York City, the benefits will post Nov. 28.

About 1.6 million households in New York rely on SNAP benefits, and have increased by 2.5% since September 2021.
