Cabinet to discuss Power Crisis today (18): Minister

COLOMBO (News 1st): The prevailing Power Crisis will be taken up for discussion at the Cabinet Meeting on Tuesday (Jan. 18), Mahinda Amaraweera, the Minister of Environment said.

Whilst pointing out that an island-wide power outage could severely affect the country’s economic progress, he emphasized that an uninterrupted supply of power in the country must be ensured.

“Regardless of whatever the obstacles ahead of us, as the Government we must intervene and work on this matter. We hope to discuss this issue at the Cabinet meeting,” Minister Amaraweera noted.

Furthermore, the power supply is essential for the manufacturing sector, exports as well as the tourism industry, he pointed out.

“We must further strengthen the people’s faith in the Government. If they don’t trust the statements made by our Ministers and the Government that would be critical,” Minister Mahinda Amaraweera further added.
