What’s happening: Suffolk County Legislature Chief of Staff Nick LaLota was the party establishment’s pick in the Republican primary. He got 47% in the three-way race so he’s got some ground to make up on a Democrat he must know well from his government job: Suffolk County Legislator Bridget Fleming, who was able to avoid a primary.
