Up From July, But More Voters Trust Republican-Controlled Congress To Handle
Topline
President Joe Biden logged his best overall and economic approval ratings since 2021 in a new CNBC/All-America Economic survey that showed his numbers improving 10 points since July—but Republicans hold the advantage over Democrats on which party will control Congress.
Key Facts
Biden’s economic approval rating rose from 30% in July to 40% in the survey released Wednesday, while voters’ feelings about the current state of the economy also improved.
Yet the figures are still bleak, with just 16% of respondents rating the state of the economy as “excellent” or “good,” a five-point increase from the previous poll, according to the survey of 800 voters conducted October 13-16 by Democratic polling firm Hart Research and Republican pollsters Public Opinion Strategies (margin of error +/-3.5).
Republicans hold a two-point advantage in wresting control of Congress, with 48% of voters saying they prefer the GOP and 46% who said they favor Democrats.
About half of voters disapprove of Biden’s overall job performance and 56% said they disapprove of his handling of the economy.
Voters said they have more confidence in a Republican-controlled Congress to handle the economy versus Democrats, with respondents favoring the GOP, in most cases by double digit margins, when asked about six economic issues.
This is a developing story.
