Trainline Sees 1H Ticket Sales, Revenue Higher on Covid-19 Recovery

Trainline PLC said in an update Thursday that first-half net ticket sales and revenue rose significantly on year after a strong post-Covid-19 industry recovery across Europe.

The U.K. company, which runs a digital platform for buying rail and bus tickets, said net ticket sales for the half to Aug. 31 were 2.16 billion pounds ($2.31 billion) compared with GBP1.00 billion a year earlier.

Revenue for the period was GBP165.0 million compared with GBP78 million a year earlier.

“Our strong performance in the first half was led by international consumer, where new product launches and brand campaigns are helping drive increased awareness of Trainline and record levels of customer acquisition in France and Italy. The strong return of tourists traveling around Europe by train this summer, particularly from the U.S., further supported growth. In the U.K., the rail industry has continued to see passenger numbers recover, reaching 95% of pre-Covid levels during August, its highest level since March 2020,” Chief Executive Jody Ford said.

The company reconfirmed guidance for fiscal 2023 of net ticket sales growth of between 18% and 27% and revenue growth of between 22% and 31% when compared with fiscal 2020.
