Trump is attacking the underpinnings of world’s most successful government

The most successful form of government ever created was the democratic form of government created in this country, based on the premise of government of the people, by the people and for the people. At the federal level, the structure of the government was formed by three segments — the executive, the legislative and the judicial branches. The executive branch is led by the U.S. president. The legislative branch is led by the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate, and the judicial branch by the U.S. Supreme Court. That system has worked dynamically over the years to result in the most successful form of government known to man.

Now, we are faced with a former executive branch leader calling the U.S. Department of Justice “totally corrupt” and influenced by “sinister and evil outside forces,” and the legislative branch misguided. Surely, this is not the most prudent approach to further the cause of democracy. Perhaps our former executive branch leader needs a refresher in the basic precepts of a democracy, to understand the workings of the most successful form of government in the world, before attacking the very principles that have made this nation a leader in the world.
