Delta passenger’s shock over destroyed suitcase
A woman was left horrified at the state of her bag, with the suitcase totally destroyed when she collected it after a flight.
Missing luggage is always a risk when flying but one woman had to deal with the aftermath of her suitcase allegedly being mangled and its contents damaged after a flight with US carrier Delta.
Photographer Emilie Hofferber, who goes by the Twitter handle ‘moosechildd’, took to the platform to share several photos of her suitcase, with the bottom completely shredded and a wheel missing, the New York Post reports.
“What the f**k Delta?” she wrote alongside the snaps on Wednesday.
She said: “10-14 days to receive a reimbursement cheque by mail?
“In 2022 we’re mailing cheques because that’s the most effective way to transfer funds.”
The tweet has received more than 116,000 likes and over 4700 comments from appalled Twitter users who couldn’t believe the state her suitcase was in.
“Was it handled by T-Rex?” one person joked.
“Did the plane crash?” a second person wrote.
“Did someone drop it into a wood chipper? That level of damage is almost impressive,” another added.
“I’m amazed that Delta will give you some money instead of saying, ‘That’s normal wear and tear,’” joked another.
One Twitter user said the damage may not have occurred during the flight, but right before Hofferber picked it up.
“This is called ‘belt burn.’ It’s what happens when there’s a jam on a conveyor belt and things can’t move. Somebody has to physically climb on to unjam it,” they explained.
A Delta spokesperson told The Post the incident was a “rare occurrence”.
“Delta sincerely apologises to this customer for the damage to her luggage and its contents,” they said.
“Delta teams have been in contact with the customer to offer compensation for this rare occurrence.”
