🌱 Triple Shooting In Ozone Park + Inmate Dies In Custody At Rikers

Hello, everybody. It’s Tuesday in Queens and I’m back in your inbox to get you caught up on the most important things happening in town. Because community news matters! Let’s do it…

First, today’s weather:

A shower around, mainly later. High: 79 Low: 65.

Here are the top three stories in Queens today:

  1. Yesterday marked the seventh death of an inmate at Rikers Island. The death occurred at 1:30 a.m., according to the Department of Corrections. As of Monday evening, the cause of death has not been released. Critics point to the deaths in custody as evidence that the jail requires dramatic changes and reduction in population. (New York Daily News)
  2. Pride month is in its fullest swing since June 2019 – do you know where you’ll be celebrating? Untapped New York put together a list of eight places you could be celebrating. From the NYC pride parade on June 26 to St. John the Divine’s rainbow columns, there’s something special anyone can appreciate. Check out the full list at the link. (Untapped New York)
  3. One is dead and two are injured after a triple shooting in Ozone Park. According to NYPD detectives, the shooting occurred in a back alley at 5:00 a.m. on Sunday. The shooting occurred near Cross Bay Boulevard and Desarc Road. NYPD have not released the identity of the man who died, and no arrests have been made as of Monday evening. (NBC New York)
