DC police call for residents to shelter in place after 3 shot in Van Ness;

The D.C. police said Friday that at least two people were shot in the area of Connecticut Avenue and Van Ness Street in Northwest D.C.

The D.C. police are telling people in the Cleveland Park and Van Ness areas to shelter in place after at least three people were shot Friday afternoon.

The people — two men and a girl — were shot in the area of Connecticut Avenue and Van Ness Street in Northwest D.C. The police said the incident happened in the 2900 block of Van Ness Street.

A D.C. police spokesperson told WTOP that there’s still an active investigation of an active threat after the shooting. The University of D.C. has issued a shelter in place order; the Edmund Burke School is on lockdown.

WTOP’s news partner NBC Washington says people are hiding behind brick walls in the area; large groups of people have been led by police out of the area.

Current street closures as of 4 p.m. include Connecticut Avenue Northwest between Sedgwick and Yuma streets; Tilden Street between Reno Road and 29th Street Northwest, and Van Ness Street at Connecticut Avenue Northwest.

This is a developing story. WTOP has a reporter on the way to the scene.
