For years now, I have been screaming from pizzeria rooftops that New Jersey has better pizza than New York, long before Food & Wine backed up the assertion and named us the best pizza state in the country. I still gloat to my New Yorker friends about The New York Times’ obsession with Jersey City za.

I still have love for New York pizza, though. Plenty of shops in the city and beyond make a mean pie. So I was curious to try Song ‘E Napule, an exalted Manhattan Neapolitan pizzeria that opened its first New Jersey location in Rutherford in December. Could it be the next great restaurant in one of the state’s soon-to-be foodie destinations?
