CityMD to temporarily close 13 locations in NYC

NEW YORK — Citing staffing issues amid a surge in demand, CityMD will temporarily close 13 locations in the city, the company announced Tuesday evening.

The closures will go into effect for the following locations in the city starting Wednesday:

The Bronx

Brooklyn

Manhattan

Queens

CityMD says it is making the move to ensure it can continue to staff its existing locations — most of which are operating at full capacity due to surge in COVID-19 cases and demand for testing — and to avoid future closures.

“With 150 locations, we’re hopeful any patients affected should still have access to a CityMD location,” CityMD said on Twitter.

“Continuing to provide these services to the community is a top priority; however, our physicians and teammates are also a priority,” the company added in a statement on its website.

New York City recently increased its own total testing locations to 112 permanent and mobile sites, and the federal government on Tuesday promised to open a new COVID-19 testing facility in the city before the end of the week.

New Yorkers are facing hours-long wait times for COVID-19 tests as the omicron variant of the coronavirus spurs record jumps in new infections and as many residents plan to travel for the Christmas weekend.

Over 42,000 people in the city tested positive for the virus from last Wednesday to Sunday. And the city’s seven-day average of positive COVID-19 tests hit 9.17% on Sunday, according to preliminary city data.

The omicron strain was detected in 90% of positive cases statewide last week, although hospitalizations have not skyrocketed at the same rate.
