Watch Condoleezza Rice throw playful Alabama shade at Peyton, Eli Manning

Condoleezza Rice knows football.

Her connection to the game is well documented, so it was no surprise that she joined Peyton Manning and Eli Manning during their Manning Megacast during Monday’s broadcast of the Giants-Buccaneers.

It didn’t take her long to throw a little shade at the former SEC quarterbacks.

Rice, an Alabama fan, couldn’t help but point out the Manning brothers’ alma maters struggling against the Crimson Tide.

She did clarify, however, where her allegiance lies, in order. She is a Stanford fan, first and foremost. After the Cardinal, she is all about Notre Dame, then it is all about the crimson and white of Alabama.

Rice, a Birmingham native, was asked about her connection to Alabama on Monday.

Eli Manning, a former Ole Miss quarterback, pointed out Rice’s first game was an Alabama-Tennessee game, so he asked her if she rooted against Peyton Manning, a former Volunteer, during his time at Tennessee.

“Peyton, as I understand it, it’s been 15 years since the Volunteers were able to beat the Crimson Tide,” she said. “And, Eli, before you get too comfortable, I think it’s six since Ole Miss beat the Crimson Tide, so it’s fun to be an Alabama fan.”

For the record, Oct. 21, 2006 was the last time the Vols have beaten Alabama. Tennessee won that game in Neyland Stadium 16-13.

She did end, though, saying she was “a little worried this year” about her Tide.
