I used to take about 60 to 80 flights a year 

I had already started thinking I needed to slow down in terms of travelling when the pandemic happened. I realised how much fun it was to be around my teenage kids and spend every day with them.

Among our most memorable family holidays was a trip to Turks and Caicos

What an amazingly beautiful place. I never knew somewhere like that existed until we got there. When my wife booked it, I thought, “You’ve got to be joking, I’m not going that far…”, but when we landed, we fell immediately in love with the place and didn’t want to go home. It was so chilled out, so relaxed, with lovely people. We stayed at the Grace Bay Club, and the hospitality there was amazing and the food simply fantastic.

It would be wrong to say I don’t like colder climates though

We visited Nova Scotia and New Brunswick in Canada and loved having a white Christmas and spending the festive period at a family reunion.

Family time is the most important thing for a perfect holiday

So whenever my wife and I plan holidays, we see what the children want to do. We have done seashores and theme parks, but the last holiday with the kids they decided they didn’t want to go to Sri Lanka, where we usually go, and asked if we could go to the States instead. So we went to Las Vegas and were probably the only family there who didn’t drink or gamble, but we had a fantastic time. We also went to the Grand Canyon, and did a helicopter ride over the Hoover Dam.
