White doves released to mark the 19th anniversary of the Bali Bombings
Randwick Council was able to hold the invitation-only event after NSW Health Minister Brad Hazard issued a special exemption to the state’s COVID-19 public health orders.
Despite the wet weather, more than 100 family, friends and local community members attended the service.
Attendees had to be double vaccinated and were required to wear a mask at all times.
To mark the Australians who lost their lives in the attack, 88 white doves were released.
Randwick Mayor Dylan Parker said the event was “an enduring testament to the unity and the spirit of our local community.”
“It’s the resilience of the families and the friends and all of those who were touched that tragic day,” Mr Parker said.
Tonight, services will also be held at the site of the two bombings at the Sari Club and Paddy’s Bar.
