Fire tears through building in the Bronx; no injuries reported

MORRISANIA, The Bronx (WABC) — A large fire tore through a building in the Bronx on Friday night.

Flames broke out on the third floor of a building on E. 163rd Street in Morrisania.

The flames quickly spread to two neighboring buildings putting residents, some of whom may have been sleeping, in harms way.

“We saw smoke here in the lamp and I got out and I smelled. When I turned around I realized that there was smoke coming from the top floors. So, we went over, my sister and I, we started banging on doors and called the fire department, we started getting everybody out. Eventually, the flames came and took the top floor and we got all of this response,” Jacqueline Montesino said.

The fire reached four alarms before it was brought under control just before midnight.

Four firefighters were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, no residents were hurt.

The cause is under investigation.
