Police arrest Nigerian national accused of assault against Indonesian woman in

A Nigerian national has been arrested in Bali for alleged assault against an Indonesian woman, about a month after the case went viral in a post detailing his alleged crimes.

The man, identified as 26-year-old KCT, was arrested at a hotel in Canggu last Friday.

“We have arrested a foreign man from Nigeria, who is alleged to have committed the crime of assault,” I Made Purwanta, who heads the crime unit at North Kuta sub-precinct, said in a statement.

Police say they are still questioning KCT as part of an ongoing investigation.

Last month, a photo of KCT and details of his alleged misdeeds went viral after it was originally uploaded by the victim’s sibling, who said that the foreigner had beaten his sister, tried to kidnap her, and took IDR20 million (US$14,016) from her by threatening the victim with a knife. The victim then filed a police report.

The viral post detailed that the man is from Nigeria and goes by the pseudonym Scott, adding that he is a hacker and an illegal immigrant. The post alleged that “Scott” is a scammer who tells his marks that he is rich in order to cozy up to them, before eventually robbing them of their money. Local media outlets are now reporting that he also uses “Harry” as an alias.

Assault resulting in serious injuries under Indonesia’s Criminal Code (KUHP) is a crime punishable by up to five years in prison.
