St. Louis County Amber Alert canceled, mom and 2 children killed

Sources told reporter Christine Byers that officers were trying to arrest Bobby McCulley III in the City of St. Louis when he shot himself

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. — The man wanted in an early morning Amber Alert and triple homicide in St. Louis County has died after shooting himself, multiple police sources have confirmed with 5 On Your Side.

Sources told reporter Christine Byers that officers were trying to arrest Bobby McCulley III on Clinton Street in the Old North St. Louis neighborhood in north city when he shot himself while sitting inside a car.

The investigation first started at 11:32 p.m. Thursday when a call came in for a shooting in the 4800 block of Lockwig Trail, which is in north county near Florissant.

Officers found a 34-year-old woman, her 13-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter shot to death inside a house, St. Louis County police confirmed. Their names have not been released.

The homicide scene led to an Amber Alert for a 1-year-old girl, who police said was abducted by her father from the scene. County police identified the suspect as McCulley and released a photo of him as part of the Amber Alert.

McCulley has a history of domestic violence, a St. Louis County police spokesperson confirmed with 5 On Your Side, adding that he is not the father of the two children found dead in the house.

The Amber Alert triggered phone and TV notifications at about 4 a.m. Within an hour, the little girl was found safe and the Missouri State Highway Patrol canceled the Amber Alert.

“Victim was located safe and unharmed with alternate family members,” MSHP tweeted Friday morning.

A source confirmed with 5 On Your Side that the girl was dropped off at a family member’s home in north St. Louis at about 3:30 a.m. Friday. The 1-year-old girl was taken to an area hospital to be checked by doctors.

The Amber Alert said McCulley was likely in a silver 2010 Dodge Charger with Missouri plates ZC6-T3V.

Police sources told 5 On Your Side that city surveillance cameras picked up on McCulley’s car driving near Goodfellow Boulevard and Natural Bridge Avenue close to the city-county line in north city. They followed his vehicle to the 1300 block of Clinton in the Old North St. Louis neighborhood, where officers said he fatally shot himself.
