Anoka Police K9 Wounded, Armed Carjacking Suspect Dead In Isanti Co. Shootout –
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — An Anoka police K9 was shot and an armed carjacking suspect is dead after a police chase that stretched 40 miles Sunday afternoon ended in a shootout in Isanti County.
Blaine police say officers first responded to a report of a shoplifting at a Kohl’s just before 1 p.m. Officers soon located the suspects in a stolen car. They drove off, then carjacked another driver at gunpoint and fled in that vehicle north on Highway 65.

The officers pursued the suspects for almost 40 minutes, until the chase ended on the highway north of Braham. Police say the suspects fled the vehicle after it became disabled, and then gunfire was exchanged between them and law enforcement. One of the suspects was shot dead, while an Anoka police K9 named Bravo was shot and injured. The dog underwent emergency surgery and is expected to survive.

The other suspect wasn’t hurt, and was taken into custody. A Blaine officer also suffered minor injuries in the ordeal. Police say at least one gun was recovered at the scene.
Anoka police say a bullet- and stab-protective vest was donated to Bravo in 2019. It’s not clear if he was wearing it when he was shot.

A stretch of Hwy. 65 was closed for hours in both directions between Hwy. 107 and Andree Drive Northeast. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says it is leading the investigation.
