Trump news live: Latest updates as president vows ‘big lawsuit’ in bizarre

Donald Trump claims he will soon present evidence of widespread ballot fraud and other wrongdoing in “great detail” in a “big lawsuit”. His tweet announcing the plan did not explain why he had not already presented that evidence in the many lawsuits his team has advanced in recent weeks.

The president continued his disinformation campaign on Tuesday by promoting the demands of Randy Quaid, the actor, for a full re-run of the vote – despite his administration finally having begun the official process of transition to Joe Biden’s leadership just a day earlier.

In an early-morning retweet spree Mr Trump also promoted Mr Quaid’s declaration that “FOX IS DEAD TO ME!” following a segment last night by right-wing commentator Laura Ingraham, in which the long-serving Fox News host admitted that Mr Biden would be the next president.

Meanwhile, the president-elect and Kamala Harris are preparing to formally unveil members of their cabinet at an event this afternoon. The roster includes Avril Haines as national intelligence director, the first woman to hold that post, and Antony Blinken as secretary of state.

Iran’s supreme leader dismisses idea of new negotiations with West

Iran’s supreme leader has dismissed the idea of re-negotiating the JCPOA when Joe Biden becomes president.

Mr Biden says he wants to rejoin the nuclear containment deal signed when he was vice president, and from which Donald Trump withdrew the US – precipitating a leap forward in Tehran’s nuclear programme it had been designed to prevent.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s declaration came even as the Tehran government spoke optimistically about the return of foreign companies in “the absence of Trump” and his economic sanctions.

Washington wants Iran to curb missile programmes which are not covered by the nuclear deal, and reduce its interventions in the Middle East. Iran has long said it will not negotiate over missiles, and no talks can begin unless the US returns to the nuclear agreement and lifts sanctions unconditionally.

In remarks reported by state television on Tuesday, Ayatollah Khamenei expressed scepticism about the entire project of negotiating with the West.

“We once tried the path of having the sanctions lifted and negotiated several years, but this got us nowhere,” he said.

“They interfere in regional affairs, they tell us not to intervene. And while Britain and France have nuclear missiles, they tell us not to have missiles. What does it have to do with you? You should first correct yourselves.”

Trump claims he’ll file ‘big lawsuit’ with actual evidence of voter fraud

Donald Trump is awake and tweeting. For the most part, it’s a retweet-fest at the moment, but the president has taken the time to craft a message of his own.

Promoting a Breitbart survey that suggests his supporters believe the false claims of voter fraud and election-rigging, Mr Trump adds: “Our big lawsuit, which spells out in great detail all of the ballot fraud and more, will soon be filled.”

Why that detailed evidence has not already been presented in the 30-plus lawsuits Mr Trump’s backers…
