Trump news live: Latest updates as president ‘considers Giuliani pardon’

The New York Times reported on Tuesday that Mr Giuliani wants a pre-emptive pardon from Mr Trump, citing two unnamed people with knowledge of the discussion.

The anonymous sources said it was not clear who broached the topic first, and it was not immediately clear if Mr Trump would follow through on the request. Mr Giuliani has rejected the reports as “fake news.”

Mr Trump has also reportedly discussed pardons for his children Eric Trump and Ivanka Trump – as well as Ms Trump’s husband Jared Kushner.

It comes as President Trump appeared at a White House Christmas event on Tuesday night in which he appeared to confirm, for the first time in public, that he will run again in 2024.

Meanwhile the president’s team filed its long-promised lawsuit in Wisconsin in an attempt to invalidate hundreds of thousands of absentee ballots in two Democrat-leaning counties.

And in Georgia, a senior elections official has called on Mr Trump to rein in his supporters amid concerns about violence after the election result.

Gabriel Sterling, a Republican, who oversaw the state’s voting system, said: “Someone’s going to get hurt. Someone’s going to get shot. Someone’s going to get killed.”

Britain beating US to Covid vaccine rollout ‘has angered White House’

Benjamin Mueller for the New York Times noted: “The specter of Britain beating the United States to a Covid vaccine approval had already angered the White House in recent days, heaping additional pressure on American regulators to match Britain’s pace.”

It is understood that Mr Trump is going to host a “Covid-19 Vaccine Summit” early next week that could well heap the pressure on US regulators.

Georgia election official urges Trump to rein in supporters

A top Georgia election official lashed out angrily at the rhetoric surrounding the election and the threats of violence that have followed.

Gabriel Sterling, a Republican who oversaw the implementation of the state’s new voting system, said:  “Mr. President, you have not condemned these actions or this language. Senators, you have not condemned this language or these actions.”

“This has to stop. We need you to step up, and if you’re going to take a position of leadership, show some.”

Leaked government map shows almost entire US is Covid-19 hotspot

Nearly the entire US is a Covid-19 hot spot, a leaked government map reveals.

Yahoo! News obtained an internal 28 November chart from the US departments of homeland security and health which show nearly the entire country blanketed in red, denoting counties which are “sustained hotspots.”

These pandemic zones, which swallow up nearly the entire state in places like Arizona and the hard-hit Midwest, are “communities that have had a high sustained case burden and may be higher risk for experiencing healthcare resource limitations,” according to the chart.

President Trump has declared on multiple occasions that the virus will disappear.
