Green Lantern: Footage From Canceled SNES Game Surfaces
A recent installment of Game History Secrets reveals gameplay footage from the Green Lantern’s canceled Super Nintendo game.
Gameplay footage from the Green Lantern‘s canceled 1990s video game has finally surfaced online.
A recent installment of the YouTube series Game History Secrets, which is hosted on the DidYouKnowGaming? channel, reveals the first-ever footage of Ocean Software’s Green Lantern game, which was in development for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System before ultimately being scrapped.
“For decades, the unreleased project has remained largely shrouded in mystery, with memories of it being kept alive by archived magazine scans and enthusiast websites picking up the pieces,” Game History Secrets host Liam Robertson explains. “Thanks to the tireless efforts of game historians, namely Frank Gasking, the creator of Games That Weren’t, much of the game’s history has at last been demystified. In 2019, Frank’s search to preserve Ocean’s lost project bore fruit, as he recovered a prototype cartridge from the project… we can now exclusively bring you the world’s first glimpse of the game in motion.”
Prior to its cancellation, Ocean’s Green Lantern video game entered development for the SNES in the early 1990s. An adaptation of the infamous “Emerald Twilight” story arc from the original DC comic books, the game would have allowed players to play as the Green Lantern known as Kyle Rayner to battle against fan-favorite Lantern Hal Jordan after he became Parallax.
